Conditions Treated with Medical Acupuncture for Pets
Veterinary acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) principles but is also supported by modern neurological and physiological research. It works by stimulating the nervous system, improving blood flow, releasing endorphins, and reducing inflammation. It can be used for dogs and cats to help with a variety of conditions.
Most pets tolerate acupuncture well, and it is often used alongside conventional treatments. Dr. Katie Clark is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA), trained to perform these treatments.
What Is Pet Acupuncture?
Benefits of Pet Acupuncture
- Pain relief without the use of medications..
- Improved mobility and reduced inflammation in joints and soft tissues.
- Enhanced blood circulation, which supports tissue repair and healing.
For pets with chronic or complex conditions, acupuncture is often used alongside other treatments, creating a balanced approach to care.
What to Expect During an Acupuncture Session
During your pet’s acupuncture session at Mount Carmel Animal Hospital, our veterinarian will create a calm, relaxing environment to ensure your pet feels safe and comfortable. The needles are very fine, and most pets tolerate the procedure well. Some pets even become so relaxed that they fall asleep during the session.
Each session is tailored to your pet’s specific condition and may last anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes. A series of treatments is often recommended to achieve the best results, depending on your pet’s response.
